Practice Details

Black Hills Surgical Hospital is seeking BE/BC Internal Medicine trained Hospitalist to the practice in Rapid City, SD.

• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
• Patient Care:
o Diagnosing, treating, and providing continuous care to inpatients.
o Optimize patients in our pre-surgical History and Physical Clinic.
• Care Coordination: Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, therapists, and specialists, to ensure a comprehensive plan of care.
• Medical Procedures: Ordering and interpreting tests, such as lab work and x-rays, and performing medical procedures.
• Medication Management: Prescribing and managing medications for inpatients.
• Communication: Communicating with patients and their families about their care and condition.
• Discharge Planning: Coordinating discharge planning and ensuring a safe transition for patients returning home.
• Collaboration: Working closely with other physicians, nurses, and staff to provide optimal patient care

Job Description

Hospitalist privileges include the ability to admit, diagnose, evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to adolescent and adult patients with common and complex illnesses, diseases, and functional disorders of the circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, gastroenteric, and genitourinary systems.

Qualifications

M.D. or D.O. degree.

Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways and should be reflective of the privileges being requested: An applicant who has just completed residency shall provide their residency procedure log and a list of completed rotations, as applicable. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the last 12 months, to include number of procedures performed-morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement of inpatient services to be at least 40 patients in the last 12 months. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s hospital activity for the last 12 months is required. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the care of 40 patients in the hospital in the last 12 months. More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate successful completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited postgraduate training program in their specialty. These specialties may include internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, critical care medicine, an internal medicine subspecialty, or internal medicine/pediatrics. Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/ subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
