Rochester Regional Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced General Surgeon to join our team at Rochester General Hospital. This role offers a unique blend of hands-on surgical care and leadership in medical education, with a particular focus on the development and oversight of a Physician Assistant (PA) education and fellowship program.
We are looking for a collaborative, clinically excellent physician who is passionate about patient care and shaping the future of surgical training.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
+ Provide general surgical services, including consultative coverage in the Emergency Department (ED), Trauma Service, and inpatient units throughout the hospital.
+ Participate in the General Surgery and Trauma Call rotation, covering six (6) on-call days per month, with flexibility based on mutual agreement.
+ Maintain prompt offsite availability when on call (responding within 20 minutes).
+ Take part in the Trauma-Two Call schedule as assigned.
Educational Leadership
+ Collaborate with the Chief and Associate Chief of Surgery to develop and grow a Physician Assistant Fellowship Program.
+ Lead and organize the clinical education of PA students and current surgical non-physician providers at Rochester General Hospital.
+ Provide structured mentorship and enhance the training experience for PAs and midlevel providers.
Administrative Oversight
+ Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of PA education programs.
+ Ensure programs align with institutional goals and meet regulatory and accreditation standards.
What You Bring
+ Medical Degree (MD or DO) with Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery
+ Eligible for New York State Medical Licensure
+ Strong clinical expertise in general surgery and trauma care
+ Demonstrated interest or experience in teaching and mentoring
Preferred:
+ Experience in clinical education, especially with PA programs
+ Prior leadership roles in academic or training settings
+ Experience working in a teaching hospital or academic medical center

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
