Job Description:

The nurse practitioner/ physician assistant functions as an independent care provider in collaboration with the medical/surgical staffTheir advance practice is characterized by comprehensive health assessments and management of patients with acute and/or chronic health problems in the peri-operative cardiothoracic surgery settingObtain patient histories and perform physical examinationWrite consultations, H&Ps, pre-op orders and post-op progress notes as indicatedAssess and manage pre- and post-operative conditions as well as common health problemsOrder and evaluate pertinent diagnostic tests including but not limited to: Radiology, laboratories, echocardiograms and ECG sPrescribe pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments for appropriate medical conditionsEducate patients and/or families regarding disease process, medical and surgical intervention and health promotionDocument patient teachingRefers and communicates pertinent abnormalities to surgical director/medical specialistServes as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff in regards to patient and disease managementFacilitate practices that are in compliance with PRO-NJ and JCAHO requirements

Requirements

Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant in the state of New Jersey.Current NJ state license CDS and DEACurrent BLS and ACLS requiredAcute care certification preferredMinimum 2 years of experience in cardiac surgery, structural cardiology or general cardiology 

Responsibilities include:

Consultations Post-Op Follow-Up VisitsOptimizing patients prior to surgery through referral to specialty providersManaging post-op complicationsCoordinating with office staff to provide patients an optimal pre- and post-operative experience
