Job Summary

\n

The Physician Assistant (PA) CV Surgical Specialty is a licensed, certified healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice.

\n

Surgical providers care for both adult and/or pediatric patients and specialize in Cardio Thoracic/Vascular Surgery.

\n

Essential Functions of the Role

\n\nAssesses patients' physical and mental condition by performing detailed or focused exams and medical histories. Monitors patients throughout their health care journey. Develops strategies to avoid hospitalization or reduce stay length.\nOrders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.\nPrescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments. Performs procedures within their scope of practice, training, and experience. Ensures treatments are effective, safe, and cost-efficient. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.\nFormulates and implements patient treatment plans based on assessments and evidence-based medicine. Collaborates with physicians and team members when needed. Evaluates patient's response to care and its effectiveness.\nCounsels patients and families about medical procedures, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.\nMaintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.\nProvide consultation level services for conditions /problems related to the Provider’s specialty, scope, level of experience, and training.\nFirst assist or second assist in the operating room or procedural setting must meet all required training and aptitude levels.\nPerforms follow-ups with patients both pre and post-operatively. May also round on patients in the hospital or see patients in the Emergency Department.\nPerform invasive or advanced procedures like endoscopic vein harvest for Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic surgery. Follow the scope of practice and the provider's knowledge level as delegated by the supervising Physician.\n\n

Key Success Factors

\n\nKnow the information and techniques to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.\nKnowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.\nVerbal and written communication skills.\nInterpersonal skills.\nCritical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.\nSkill in the use of computers and related software applications.\nAbility to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans.\nAbility to counsel patients concerning medical and psychological/psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification.\nAbility to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.\nCurrent license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.\nBasic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer.\nCurrent certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).\n\n

 Physician Assistants (PA)

 Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
