Summary

Position Highlights:

Under the supervision of a physical therapist, assists patients in improving mobility, relieving pain, and preventing or minimizing physical impairments. The PTA will be responsible for mobilizing the patient, performing gait training, instructing in therapeutic exercise, and will communicate with the supervising therapist regarding need for plan of care changes and discharge planning. Provides care for inpatient and/or outpatient caseload. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team regarding the needs of the patient. Opportunities to contribute to presentations, publications, supervision of students/interns and execution of departmental education efforts, etc. which will contribute to advancement in a clinical ladder.

Job Specific Duties:

 

Under the supervision of a physical therapist, assist with planning and providing treatments to the patient according to the physical therapy practice. Monitors and responds to the patient's response to treatment and adjusts accordingly. Determines the need for reassessment and reports any change to the supervising therapist. Collaborates and communicates with the interdisciplinary team members regarding patient status and discharge planning. Assist with supervision of high school interns, observation students, and Rehab Aides. May assist with PTA students. Adheres to departmental productivity standards and uses time efficiently. Demonstrates initiative by performing tasks that may not be directly assigned. Attends departmental meetings and in-services. Maintains required continuing education credits, BLS certification, and state licensure. Covers occasional weekends and holidays if staffing needs warrant. Participates in education in-services, presentations, etc. as needed. Opportunity to participate in Clinical Ladder advancement

Requirements:

Associates degree – Physical Therapy Assistant BLS Certification  PTA license/certification  One year of clinical experience preferred. Clinical experience in an acute care hospital during PTA school will be accepted.
