Phlebotomist II

Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws and label specimens accurately.Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.Decontaminate work areas and update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples at the required temperature and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of experience in a relevant field.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with patient care and specimen processing.Ability to use both straight needles and butterfly needles effectively.Work Environment

Work in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting, adhering to safety regulations and protocols. The role may require handling various specimen types, using specific techniques and equipment to ensure the integrity of samples during collection and transport.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
