We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Phlebotomist V to join our healthcare team. This role involves opening the clinic early to accommodate patients who arrive before their scheduled appointments. As a Phlebotomist V, you will be responsible for various tasks related to specimen collection and processing, ensuring that all procedures are conducted efficiently and in compliance with established protocols.
Responsibilities
+ Open the clinic at 7:30 am to check in early arriving patients.
+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
+ Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department training sessions.
+ Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.
Essential Skills
+ Phlebotomy and blood draw expertise
+ Venipuncture and specimen collection skills
+ 2+ years of phlebotomy experience
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with geriatric patients
+ Customer service skills
+ Laboratory and specimen processing knowledge
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment
+ Excellent tenure and strong communication skills
+ Adaptability in a dynamic work environment
Work Environment
The phlebotomist will start the shift alone, with the rest of the staff arriving when the clinic officially opens at 8 am. A total of three phlebotomists will work together daily. The position is part-time, with hours from 7:30 am to 2 pm. There is flexibility to extend the lunch break to an hour or half an hour for additional hours if desired. The role requires strong communication and adaptability to meet the expectations of strict providers.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, Texas.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
