Job Description
The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
ResponsibilitiesCollect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperature and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsPhlebotomyBlood drawVenipunctureCustomer serviceAt least 2-3 years of recent phlebotomy experienceExperience with all age groups from pediatric to geriatricExperience with 30+ patient draws per dayPhlebotomy certificationAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDExperience with straight needles and specimen collectionCPT and specimen processingGood personality and long-term commitmentWork Environment
The position is based in a family practice located in Suwanee. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM. This opening would have you joining a 3 person IOP team, handling 20-30 draws per PST. This is a contract-to-hire position covering FMLA at a fast-paced site, ideal for someone experienced with high volumes of 20-30+ sticks per day, including pediatric and adult patients.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
