Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods as required.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.Understand and execute all physicians' orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport while ensuring integrity according to protocols.Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place samples in appropriate containers or tubes.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy.Additional Skills & QualificationsSkills in phlebotomy, blood draw, venipuncture, and customer service.Work Environment
The work environment is fast-paced and may involve interaction with various patients. Compliance with safety regulations is essential, and attendance at department trainings is required.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
