Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations within a laboratory setting.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.Understand and follow all physicians' orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label specimens as required.Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.Package specimens for transport, store samples at required temperatures, and label samples appropriately.Follow procedures necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of relevant experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExpertise in blood draw and pediatric draw.Phlebotomy certification.Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred.Work Environment
Working hours are Monday to Friday from 7am to 9pm, with scheduling within these hours. Saturday hours vary, and scheduling will be within the specified time frame.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
