Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist with various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, and offer workflow recommendations. This position requires a professional who can efficiently perform blood draws, label specimens, and maintain accurate records while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws and properly label specimens.Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.Decontaminate equipment and update patient information accurately.Collect and store specimens following established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight or butterfly needles.Fully comprehend physicians' orders and match requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.Package specimens for transport, ensuring they are stored at the required temperature.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer phone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential Skills
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of relevant experience.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in customer service.Skill in specimen processing and data entry.Work Environment
The work environment is typically a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, requiring adherence to safety protocols and regulations. The role involves handling various medical equipment, including straight and butterfly needles, and requires maintaining specimen integrity during transport.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
