Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and recommending improvements to work processes.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct blood draws, label specimens, and perform centrifuging of specimens.
+ Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures.
+ Update patient information and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
+ Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script with 100% accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Essential Skills
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ 0-2 years of experience in phlebotomy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 1 year experience with blood draws in high volume settings.
+ Experience working with patients ranging from babies to geriatrics.
+ Reliability and strong work ethic.
Work Environment
Work in a dynamic and fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. The role requires adherence to safety and regulatory standards. This position involves working with a diverse range of patients and may require flexible working hours.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $18.00/hr.
