Job Description
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. As a phlebotomist, you will be essential in collecting, processing, and storing specimens while ensuring compliance with established procedures and regulations.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws and label specimens accurately.Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.Understand and follow all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure 100% accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.Package specimens for transport, maintaining required temperatures.Store specimen samples correctly to maintain integrity during transport.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsProficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.1-2 years of experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Experience with hard stick collections.Ability to understand and follow health care protocols.Strong customer service skills.Knowledge of CPT codes.Familiarity with butterfly needle techniques.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED.1-2 years of experience performing venipunctures.Work Environment
The work environment is a small infectious disease physician's office. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.
