Job Description

The role of the Phlebotomist is pivotal in supporting various tasks including troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements. This position is integral to maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of specimen collection and processing.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and update patient information accurately.Collect and store specimens in compliance with established procedures.Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.Demonstrate proficiency in using straight needles and butterfly needles.Interpret and follow physicians' orders precisely.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are correct.Package specimens for transport following proper protocols.Store specimen samples at required temperatures and in appropriate containers.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings to stay updated.Handle telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of experience in phlebotomy.Additional Skills & QualificationsGood communication skills.Comfortable working independently.Skilled with hard stick draws and working with pediatric and geriatric patients.Customer service experience in a medical laboratory setting.Work Environment

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for entering orders and processing specimens independently. The candidate will handle approximately 10 to 15 patients daily, encompassing all age groups. This position requires 1st shift hours from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The role demands a candidate who is comfortable working alone with 1 to 2 years of experience.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $14.00 - $16.50/hr.
