Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow recommendations. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens in accordance with established procedures, as well as explaining the process of specimen collection clearly and courteously.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and update patient information.Collect and store specimens following established procedures.Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process clearly to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight or butterfly needles.Understand and execute physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Ensure accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature and protocol.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Handle inquiries by answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results.Essential SkillsPhlebotomy certification as required by state regulations.Proficiency in blood draw, venipuncture, and specimen collection.Phlebotomy experience with all patient types for at least 1 year.Experience with hard sticks, urine, and thyroid testing.Data entry skills and attention to detail.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED.1-2 years of relevant experience.Experience in hospital, ER, urgent care, or customer service settings.Experience with specimen processing, and working with pediatric and geriatric patients.Work Environment
The work environment is primarily within a doctor's office (IOP). The Phlebotomist is expected to perform between 15-20 draws daily and will stand for the majority of their shift. While working both independently and alongside other employees, the role may involve working with geriatric patients. The office is medium-sized, providing a supportive and engaging atmosphere.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
