Job Description

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, or other specimen collection such as urine or fecal as required.Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Ensure 100% accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsProficiency in phlebotomy, blood drawing, and venipuncture.Ability to perform hard sticks and use butterfly needles.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of relevant experience.Work Environment

The work schedule is Mon-Fri 9a-6p, Rotating Sat 615a-12p (4hrs Varied) This position is based in a fast-paced site, ideal for individuals experienced with handling higher volumes. We have several openings in Syracuse, Utica, East Syracuse, Ilion, and Liverpool.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
