UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown, NY is currently seeking motivated and compassionate Full-Time Phlebotomists to join our team. This position plays a vital role in patient care by accurately performing phlebotomy and specimen collection for both inpatients and outpatients. The samples you collect are critical for laboratory testing and directly support the diagnosis and treatment of our patients.
This position will work variable shifts Monday through Friday, including days, evenings, and nights, and will require availability on alternating weekends and holidays. Ideal candidates will have phlebotomy experience, a working knowledge of medical terminology, strong customer service skills, and experience in patient care. Candidates who have completed formal phlebotomy training are highly preferred.
As a Phlebotomist at UPMC Chautauqua, you will work in close collaboration with Medical Technologists and contribute to essential computer, courier, and clerical functions within the lab. Responsibilities:
Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner. Procure appropriate blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick following proper patient identification procedures. Instruct patients on self-collection procedures for laboratory specimens and collect non-blood samples as required. Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgment while recognizing priorities and accepting appropriate authority. Perform specimen collection at on- and off-site locations and transport specimens to the laboratory following safety procedures. Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, methods, quality control, safety, compliance, and hand hygiene. Perform clerical duties and utilize computer systems to enter demographic information, test orders, cancellations, charges, and credits accurately. Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as applicable and assigned. Inform technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists of unusual or problematic incidents. Perform arterial punctures following strict collection and post-collection protocols, if required. Monitor and maintain supplies for assigned functions and use materials and reagents efficiently.
