Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist with various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. This position involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating areas, and updating patient information.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws and properly label specimens.Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match the script with 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.Follow protocols for specimen collection and transport to maintain integrity.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsPhlebotomyBlood drawVenipunctureSpecimen collectionCustomer serviceHospital, ER, and Urgent Care experienceAdditional Skills & QualificationsProficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteHigh School Diploma or GED1-2 years of experienceWork Environment

The work environment includes a patient service center and an IOP setting. The role involves standing for the majority of the shift and requires performing about 35 draws daily. The position involves working both independently and collaboratively with other employees. The typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
