Pharmacy Technician Trainee - Toledo Hospital - Full Time - Variable

POSITION SUMMARY

ProMedica Pharmacy Technician University

Join an exciting healthcare field that is in very high demand right now and work side by side with other professionals to prepare and distribute medications for patients. Learning experience is provided in both hospital and retail pharmacy practice.

      • Save money on tuition! All students are hired as paid employees of ProMedica at $15/hour, including benefits. Similar programs in the Toledo area cost up to ~$14,000.

      • The program is full-time for ~4 months and consists of 136 hours of didactic on-line self-study modules, 65 hours of simulations, and at least 260 hours of in-person, real world experiences in our ProMedica pharmacies.

      • All sites are in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Current sites include ProMedica Toledo Hospital, Toledo Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy, Flower Hospital, Bay Park Hospital, Defiance Regional Hospital, Monroe Regional Hospital and Macomb Pharmacy.

      • Once the prerequisite requirements are completed, students will transfer to a full-time position in the Pharmacy Department to complete the program.

      • Open Pharmacy Technician positions within ProMedica will be shared with students in the program to assist with job placement upon completion.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Individuals with an Ohio technician trainee or Michigan temporary technician license are enrolled in a recognized technician training program or are in the process of transferring their license from another state. Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Tasks are assigned according to Ohio or Michigan Board of Pharmacy restrictions as noted in OAC 4729:3-3-01 and Public Health Code 333.17739. Collaborates with team members in meeting department goals. Establishes and maintains mechanisms for communication and constructive problem solving with staff. Utilizes a team approach in decision-making and problem solving. Builds trust and mutual respect. Provides proper notification for absences and tardiness. Maintains professional, helpful, and courteous relationships with nursing and other hospital employees, patients, and their families. Performs all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and responsible manner. Supports the department in providing a vision for its direction and embraces the change process to achieve the vision. Fosters the culture of patient safety by using the error prevention techniques. Communicates effectively orally and in writing within department as well as to all external customers. Strives for continuous improvement by focusing on key department systems. Participates in creating an environment for success through team participation.
