PURPOSE: Responsible for the training and development of all levels of Pharmacy Technicians. Assists in all aspects of pharmacy operations as legally permissible and as directed by the Pharmacy Manager including customer service, operations, supervision, housekeeping, third party administration, inventory control, sales, cash handling, opening and closing, and implementation of Company policies and federal and state legal requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Champions Company and Division customer service programs to meet or exceed Division customer service goals. Handles customer relations in a positive manner, including effective resolution of customer complaints. Promotes Albertson’s philosophy of personalized service in the pharmacy.
· Answers the phone and refers phone requests from physicians, patients, and others which require a pharmacist’s knowledge, to the pharmacists.
· Accepts the written prescription or refill information from patients, confirms completeness of patient record and requests missing information as appropriate, and retrieves the patient’s pharmacy record(s) for verification by the pharmacists. Obtains patient allergy information. Communicates with physicians to obtain prescription and refill authorizations.
· Applies basic prescription reading skills to the written prescription upon data entry. Basic prescription reading skills include: dosage form differentiation, directions, pharmacy calculations and product recognition.
· Inputs, accesses, processes, and retrieves data from the pharmacy computer, including speed codes and drug interaction data, as state laws permit (on both cash and third party prescriptions) and verifies third party parameters.
· Accesses the pharmacy computer to obtain complete patient record (on both cash and third party prescriptions) and verifies third party parameters.
· Where allowed by law, informs the patient of the availability of generic alternative products.
· Processes prescriptions to the point of generating a complete prescription label. Counts medication and fills prescriptions vials. · Operates patient sales register by processing individual patient purchases over the scanner or utilizing a scan gun; accurately reads and records prices for items which will not scan.
· Totals patient orders; collects cash, checks, and credit cards, gift certificates and coupons from patients; and enters amount and type of payment in accordance with established company policies and procedures.
· Bags all products and affixes the receipt to the bag and places company stickers on items, which are not in bags.
· Returns returned non-pharmacy merchandise to its proper locations.
· In areas outside of the pharmacy, keeps the merchandise clean, stocked and properly displayed.
· Maintains the clean appearance and security of the pharmacy.
· Prevents the sale of out of code product.
· Replenishes pharmacy supply of vials, bottles, bags, and other supplies.
· Records product needed on “want list”. May order pharmacy products and noncontrol products. May process incoming order and “returns’ to suppliers. Participates in the collection of sale information for the Pharmacy.
· Trains Pharmacy Technicians.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the pharmacist on duty or the Pharmacy Manager.
SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Requires good written and communications and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain composure in dealing with associates, customers, agencies and third parties.
· Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 30 lbs.
· Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.
· May utilize cleaning supplies, latex and chemicals.
· Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic mathematics and pharmaceutical weights and measures.
· Must be able to learn department policies and procedures. Must be able to learn and understand pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, proper drug handling, drug interactions and potential side effects.
· Must operate equipment such as computers, scan guns, tablet counter and cash registers.

· Complies with all Company policies including confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, attendance, grooming standards and dress codes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment.
