Position Description
Position Description:
The Metro Public Health Department is seeking an experienced to join our team in a full-time position within our pharmacy. The pharmacy technician will report directly to the pharmacist and help to perform daily needs both in the retail and redistribution center sides of our pharmacy.

Typical Duties
+ Works with clinical staff in completing medication orders.
+ Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with local, state, federal, and departmental regulations.
+ Helps patients who are dropping off or picking up prescription orders.
+ Enters prescription orders into the computer.
+ Creates and updates patient’s health and insurance information in the computer; at point of sale, verifies that customer receives correct prescription(s); completes weekly distribution center medication order, places orders on shelves, and verifies all associated paperwork.
+ Assists the pharmacist with filling and labeling prescriptions.
+ Prepares the pharmacy inventory; answers telephone calls for the pharmacist; communicates with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorization; prepackages bulk medications.
+ Maintains an awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields that relate to job responsibilities and integrates them into practice.
+ Assists in training other pharmacy technicians as applicable.
+ Maintains knowledge of loss prevention techniques.
+ Completes weekly medication orders as written by the TB medical provider and verifies all associated paperwork is completed. Follows the Quality & Assurance procedures for the TBE Clinic Medication Room to ensure there are no expired medications on the shelves. Complete weekly pharmacy count in the TBE Clinic Medication Room. Maintains the DOT database and forwards the updated DOT List on a weekly basis to the appropriate TBE Clinic staff members.
+ Maintains confidentiality of all patient, department, and organization information and follows HIPAA regulations.
+ Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ Three (3) years of clerical experience including at least one (1) year as a Pharmacy Technician.
+ Registration with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy.
+ Certification with the PTCB.
Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
