Job SummaryResponsible for providing prescription delivery service to patients in a variety of care settings such as: the hospital, Emergency Department, or infusion room setting. Provides multi-disciplinary support to pharmacists, nurses, case managers, and other staff to promote an effective transition of care. Identifies patients eligible for delivery service, reviews drug benefit information for patients, third parties and HMOs to promote a smooth medication procurement process and to ensure reimbursement requirements are met. Delivers prescriptions to patients and ensures proper payment upon delivery.

As a Medical Access Pharmacy Technician, you will work with discharge, Peds, and Transplant Teams. You will be assigned to an in-patient care team, check how many patients are admitted, check the status of patient’s insurance and work through insurance issues with the team to plan for what types of medications they can be prescribed (cost, etc.). We are looking for some with pharmacy background, medication knowledge, and insurance claims familiarity.  

 

A caregiver in this position works from 8:00AM – 6:30PM. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Communicate directly with patients and caregivers while performing technical functions within the assigned work area to ensure timely and accurate procurement of prescriptions and documentation within the electronic medical record when required.  

Identify potential medication-related access problems and work with patients and the multi-disciplinary team to solve these problems in an efficient and patient-centered manner. 

Coordinate education, bedside medication delivery, and medication payment. 

Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a seamless medication-related procurement process for patients. 

Work with the pharmacy leadership teams to identify areas of opportunity for improved patient experience.  

Assist manager in creating, implementing and monitoring quality control programs in assigned area. 

Conduct third party prior authorization requests when needed. 

Monitor program performance, including patient volumes served and patient experience indicators, serving as a valued resource to identify discharge prescription coverage issues and assist in their resolution. 

Complete medication histories or other transitional care activities as assigned per location. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

High School Diploma/GED  

Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program  

Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA). 

In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.  

Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:

Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time.

Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job.

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
