Job Description
Under direct and indirect supervision, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for patient communication to discuss therapy progress, physician follow-up, medication profile updates, and obtaining inventory from the patient to properly refill orders. The role involves assisting the pharmacist in obtaining laboratory values for review.
ResponsibilitiesMaintain team schedule for patient follow-up and refill assessments as well as deliveries.Participate in team huddles each morning to prioritize and coordinate the processing, compounding, and delivery of supplies and orders.Communicate with patients to review inventory to properly refill existing orders, ensuring appropriate inventory is maintained.Report identified non-compliance, process orders, print labels, and packing lists in a timely manner.Ensure timely and appropriate documentation in progress notes.Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and clinicians involved in the care of the patient, discussing patient progress and forwarding concerns and clinical questions to the team pharmacist.Coordinate with the Warehouse Coordinator to ensure patient needs are met with adequate supplies and timely deliveries.Update patient medication profile in EMR and present to the team pharmacist for review.Follow-up with physician's office as appropriate within the scope of practice.Notify the Reimbursement team of patient hospitalizations, prescription changes, and changes in patient status.Assist pharmacists in obtaining laboratory values and forward them to the ordering physician. Enter lab values in EMR as appropriate.Provide delivery representative with patient pick-up forms and assist with scheduling pick-up of equipment and medical waste.Perform all other duties assigned by the Supervisor/Manager.Ensure complete understanding of confidentiality with respect to proprietary information and comply with federal and state laws regarding confidentiality of protected health information.Essential SkillsMinimum of 6 months pharmacy technician experience.Pharmacy technician license and VA license required.2+ years of computer data entry experience.Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills and organizational abilities.Ability to work well under pressure and meet timelines.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Proven performance history in a related field.Exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated results.Additional Skills & QualificationsWorking knowledge of pharmacy procedures.Experience with Home Infusion, Specialty Infusion, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME).Prior authorization experience.Experience in retail pharmacy, fulfillment, and inventory.Work Environment
The role involves working in a closed-door pharmacy setting with no patient-facing responsibilities. The work hours are from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, with an 8-hour shift starting between 8:30 and 9:30 am. There is room for growth and advancement, offering a supportive environment with a focus on teamwork.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
