As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will support pharmacists in providing pharmacy services. The technician is responsible for packaging, preparation and distribution of medications, inventory control, submitting tickets with the Emergency Department, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. At Cleveland Clinic, you will find your position here differs significantly from similar roles at other facilities. You will do so much more than count prescriptions and ring out patients. You will make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, their families and your fellow caregivers.

This position provides opportunities for growth, offering the ability to learn and continue developing in other roles, with the added chance to cross-train as well.

A caregiver in this role works evening shifts from 9:00pm. – 7:30 a.m. or 9:00 p.m. – 08:00 a.m. and is required to work every other weekend and occasional holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.

Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.

Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.

Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.

Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.

Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

High School Diploma or GED

Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon or within 18 months of hire

Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Basic computer skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program

Six months of hospital experience

Inpatient experience

Physical Requirements:

Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
