This position's purpose is to protect the public from adulterated, misbranded, and illicit drugs and to provide the public reasonable assurance of professional competency in the practice of pharmacy. To survey and evaluate the practice of pharmacy and drug distribution and to complete inspections according to agency authority and policy. To educate pharmacists and other health care professionals and to promote compliance with all regulations and standards of pharmacy practice and with all applicable state and federal laws. To serve as a resource for knowledge in specialized fields of pharmacy practice; and to identify and promote necessary changes in practice.
The employee in this position will conduct onsite inspections of pharmacies, drug manufacturers, drug wholesaler, medical gas distributors, and controlled substance research facilities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and standards of practice. During inspections, the employee will work with facility personnel to develop a plan to bring the facility into compliance with laws, rules and standards of practice, as necessary. The employee will complete inspection reports and will notify the Board's management of any serious violations.
Additionally, the employee will investigate complaints that allege that an individual or business licensed by the Board has violated applicable laws, rules, or standards of practice. During an investigation, the employee will interview facility personnel, review records, and collect evidence as necessary. The employee will prepare a written investigation report that will be reviewed by the Board's Complaint Review panel. The employee will provide testimony, as necessary, before the Board, the Board's Committee on Professional Standards, an administrative law judge, or the state's Court of Appeals.
Pharmacy Surveyors serve as a consultant for licensees and registrants who request the Board's assistance in developing plans, policies, and procedures that will allow the licensee or registrant to comply with applicable statutes, rules, and standards of practice. The employee will also assist the Board and the Executive Director in the development of policies, rules and proposals for statutory changes. These duties may require the employee to research issues by reviewing professional journals, the statutes and rules of the federal government or other states, the standards developed by national associations or accreditation organizations and other relevant materials.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree
+ Current Minnesota Pharmacy License* or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment
+ Five (5) years of practicing as a pharmacist in a Minnesota licensed dispensing, compounding, or hospital pharmacy
+ Knowledge of state and federal pharmacy and drug laws
+ Good communication skills to carry out functions related to interpersonal relationships with pharmacists and other health care professionals
+ Ability to prioritize numerous duties and tasks with varied timelines
+ Ability to travel frequently within the State of Minnesota with 30%-50% of time spent in overnight travel**

**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Ten (10) years of experience practicing as a pharmacist in a dispensing, compounding, or hospital setting in the state of Minnesota
+ Three (3) years as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) of a Minnesota pharmacy
+ Five (5) years of patient facing practice experience within retail or other dispensing pharmacy practice areas
+ Experience and skills regarding inspection, investigational techniques and root cause analysis
+ Experience with formal policy and procedure review and revision
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including presentation software, Teams, Outlook, Excel and Word
**Physical Requirements**
+ Ability to:
+ Work 40 hours per week and work infrequently outside of normal business hours
+ Regularly use computer for extended periods of time
+ Participate in meetings both in person and remotely on a regular basis
+ Carry small items such as laptops, folders, and documents, and to move 10-25 lbs.
+ Regularly sit, stand, climb, bend, and reach, and operate a registered vehicle during the exercise of duties
