Pharmacy Manager - Continuing Health/Home Health

Holds market-specific accountability for home infusion pharmacy operations. Works alongside other service-line leaders to ensure a high level of performance on all key organization strategies: Growth, Revenue & Operating Performance, Patient Safety, Consumer Experience, & Organizational Culture. Individually, this leader will plan, organize, direct and control homecare pharmacy operations. To assure that the pharmaceutical care provided is in full compliance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and meets professional standards of practice.

Major Responsibilities:

Assumes position of legal “Pharmacist in Charge” for homecare pharmacy operations and is fully accountable for pharmacy practice and controlled substance compliance with State and Federal governments. Maintains State and Federal Pharmacy and Controlled Substances licenses, and processes necessary applications to modify licensure as needed. Responds to inquires and audits conducted by these agencies.

Accepts responsibility for pharmacy operations accreditation compliance. Understands accreditation requirements and monitors requirement changes, assess ongoing compliance of operations to those requirements and implements corrective actions where required.

Organizes pharmacy operations operations activities to meet customer needs and regulatory/accreditation requirements. The scope includes at a minimum: 1) drug dispensing activities; 2) sterile product admixture; 3) clinical pharmacy services; and 4) department customer service support. Such as activities include supervision and scheduling of subordinate pharmacist, pharmacy technician and customer service support staff, as well as work flow organization and task assignment. Directs department CQI activities including critical improvement indicator development and monitoring. Evaluates and updates QA review process consistent with changes in scope of operations & practice.

Serves as market-specific pharmacy leader for home infusion operations.

Develops and ensures a culture and work environment that supports the organization vision. Effectively engages employees and provides for development opportunity.

Oversees local inventory management process to ensure efficient use of capital.

Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.

Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.

Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Pharmacist license issued by the state in which the team member practices.


Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.


Experience Required:

Typically requires 5 years of experience in a pharmacy setting that includes experience in infusion therapy, compounding, or home care pharmacy operations. Includes 1 year of supervisory experience in managing staff and budgets.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities, including problem solving, prioritization, decision-making, delegation, team-building, customer service and conflict resolution.

Advanced level of knowledge of advances of pharmaceutical practices and understanding of health care trends.

Ability to drive team member engagement.

High focus on quality improvement.

Strong inventory management skills.

Basic financial management and budgeting skills. Willingness to expand knowledge and use of financial statements.

Good understanding of emerging home infusion services.

Strong knowledge and background in payor requirements. Ability to adapt to the home infusion statements.

Strong communication abilities. Ability to convey ideas and provide effective explanation to staff, peers, as well as executive leadership as needed.

This position may be asked to travel occasionally for training, business meetings or pharmacist coverage.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Generally exposed to normal office environment.

This position requires travel so may be exposed to road and weather hazards.

Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods.

Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
