Position Summary:
Compound and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving prescriptions, and provide clerical support. Under the supervision of the designated shift supervisor. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* PRESCRIPTIONS/ORDERS - Weigh, measure and mix ingredients; compound and prepare medication emulsions, liquids, powders, and ointments using graduates, balance, mortars, pestles and funnels
* PATIENT CARE - Fill prescriptions from bulk stock; fill bottles, capsules and other package forms with measured amounts of medication according to prescription
* PATIENT CARE - Type labels for medication and IV solutions
* PATIENT CARE - Price patient medications; completes patient charge slips
* SUPPLIES - Receive and stock ordered supplies
* PATIENT CARE - Make rounds; pick up orders; deliver prescriptions
* ADMINISTRATION - File physicians orders and patient drug charges; file controlled substance usage forms; provide phone support; assists in department maintenance functions
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Licensed Pharmacy Intern in NM or obtain w/in 90 DOH

Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
