Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Outpatient Pharmacist to join our team. The role involves ensuring the appropriateness of physician orders and providing essential pharmaceutical services. You will be responsible for reviewing medication orders, resolving drug-related issues, and communicating effectively with healthcare staff and patients. This position is crucial in supporting medication administration, monitoring drug therapy, and educating patients about their prescriptions.
ResponsibilitiesReview physician orders for appropriateness of drug, dose, frequency, and route of administration.Identify and resolve therapeutic duplications, age appropriateness, allergies, and sensitivities.Assess potential impacts through laboratory values and identify food-drug and drug-drug interactions.Compare new orders with current patient-specific information and resolve any drug-related problems with the prescribing physician when necessary.Document pharmacy interventions and communicate with nursing staff and patients to obtain relevant clinical information.Provide information to support nurses in medication administration, drug therapy monitoring, and patient education.Educate patients regarding medications prescribed at discharge when appropriate.Essential SkillsProficiency in pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical knowledge.Experience in prior authorization processes.Strong data entry skills.Exceptional customer service abilities.Experience in pharmacy benefits management.Prior retail pharmacy experience.Comfortable working with people and managing pharmacy technicians.Additional Skills & QualificationsMinimum of one year accredited pharmacy residency strongly preferred.Previous hospital experience strongly preferred.Work Environment
The position is based in the retail pharmacy located on the main floor/lobby of the hospital. The environment can vary from very busy to quiet, changing from minute to minute, and involves working collaboratively within a team of 2 pharmacists and 3-4 technicians. Employees can expect a dynamic and engaging work atmosphere.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
