Summary of Job Duties:The Pharmacist ensures safe, accurate, and appropriate medication use by reviewing prescriptions, monitoring contraindications, and preparing/dispensing medications, including hazardous drugs and chemotherapy. They prioritize patient care, oversee pharmacy personnel, provide medication counseling, answer pharmacy-related questions, and document interventions and safety events. They promote the health system’s mission, maintain professionalism, and serve as a resource for the department. In a leadership role at the North Little Rock Cancer Center Pharmacy, the Pharmacist oversees daily operations, personnel functions (hiring, onboarding, assessments, discipline), procurement, inventory management, and process improvements. As the pharmacist in charge, they ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, maintain accurate documentation, and address facility-related issues, including cleanroom standards and medication organization. They also contribute to strategic planning for the facility, aligning with the Arkansas Board of Pharmacy Lawbook requirements.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy Plus 5 years applicable experience (i.e., previous hospital experience, sterile compounding experience, hazardous drug handling, management, etc.); PGY1 equates to 2 years of experience
Licensed registered pharmacist by the state of Arkansas, or eligible for licensure in Arkansas (licensure includes a requirement for education component; must be a graduate of an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy as a condition of licensure)
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas: Project development, Implementation of services, Committee involvement, Policy development, and review
Pharm.D.
Additional advanced degrees (MBA, MPH, MHA, PMA, MHSA, MEd, PhD in healthcare, M.S.)
7 years applicable experience (i.e., previous hospital experience, sterile compounding experience, hazardous drug handling, management, etc.); PGY1 equates to 2 years of experience
Previous facility or personnel management experience

Responsibilities:
Reviews and verifies medication orders, including checking for appropriateness, proper dosing, contraindications, allergies, proper volumes and concentrations, mixing instructions, administration instructions, etc.
Ensures proper preparation and labeling of oral & injectable medications
Performs sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous medications
Performs final check of all medicines before dispensing
Properly utilizes technology to perform the job, including all hoods, pumps, computers, barcode scanners, electronic medical records, investigational drug inventory software, Microsoft Word/Excel, etc.
Dispenses investigational drugs accurately (if applicable)
Collaborates regularly with RNs, APRNs, and physicians in the provision and coordination of patient care, performing tasks such as medication reconciliation, proactive order & treatment plan review, troubleshooting, clarifying orders, providing education to patients, nurses, and providers
Prioritizes workflow based on patient needs and staffing availability
Oversees the work of technicians, student employees, and students or residents on rotation
Corrects, rather than ignores, any problems with operations or medication dispensing and distribution
Establishes, maintains, revises, and implements pharmacy procedures, work standards, and quality control measures within the general framework of pharmacy and hospital procedures
Assists with purchasing, maintaining, and managing inventory/supplies while keeping areas of responsibility organized
Ensure employees, including themselves, maintain all pharmacy protocols and procedures
Makes suggestions and provides feedback to the Director on operational and workflow concerns
As assigned, assists with, or leads implementations of new workflows to improve safety or efficiency
Understands proper use, cleaning, and maintenance of commonly used equipment
Performs or oversees all required cleaning tasks
Demonstrates proficiency in various systems used for daily operational functions
Ensures that all equipment and facilities are used, calibrated, and maintained properly
Evaluates and reviews operations to identify possible improvements in areas of responsibility including workload reports
Serves as a liaison to other departments, including medical staff, nursing staff, environmental services, campus operations, information technology, billing and compliance, etc
