GENERAL SUMMERY:
Location: Detroit, MI
Schedule: Contingent, Rotating Shifts
Review prescriptions for clarity, accuracy and appropriateness and to compound and dispense the medications and pharmaceutical supplies prescribed in accordance with standard operating procedures. Work in a specialty/ mail order fast paced, high-volume environment. Manage pharmacy operation during absence of supervisory personnel.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review physician’s prescriptions for clarity, accuracy and appropriateness, i.e., patient allergies, drug interactions, therapeutic duplication, automatic stop orders. Contact the physician in the event of inappropriate or unclear medication orders and document the interventions in the pharmacy computer; advise physicians regarding safe and effective drug therapy. Possess knowledge of specialty biotech and oncology products. Able to verify approximately 250 prescriptions in an eight-hour shift. Compound prescriptions as necessary applying professional pharmaceutical knowledge and judgment. Maintain records and profiles of prescriptions and narcotics as required by Federal and State laws. Ensure medications are stored under proper conditions and security. Participate in instructing nurses and patients in pharmaceutical material. Order pharmaceuticals and related supplies to maintain adequate inventory. Assist in developing and implementing of new policies and procedures; participate in special projects involving the pharmacy department. Ensure the required pharmacy forms, reports and labels are generated by the computer each day and processed appropriately. Enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system. Oversee and guide the work of assigned technical support staff and interns in performing duties and responsibilities; assign work checking quality and quantity; advise staff on methods and procedures; participate in evaluating performance. Evaluate medical literature for new drugs and treatments; participate in drug formulary reviews and provide drug information upon request.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree in Pharmacy. Registered Pharmacist, licensed in the State of Michigan with a Controlled Substance License. Ability to perform at a fast pace in a high production environment. Ability to verify an average of 250 prescriptions in an 8-hour shift.
