Due to continued growth and constantly seeking to expand the breadth and depth of our services, we are looking to hire a skilled and self-motivated Petrographer to join our laboratory team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting petrographic analyses of concrete, mortar, cement, and other related construction materials to evaluate their composition, properties, and performance. You will work closely with our laboratory staff and clients to provide valuable insights into the materials used in construction projects, assisting with failure investigations and offering recommendations for improved material quality and durability. Responsibilities:                           + Conduct petrographic examinations of concrete, mortar, grout, and other related building materials to evaluate their physical and chemical properties. + Analyze concrete mix designs, including aggregates and cementitious materials, to ensure quality and compliance with industry standards. + Evaluate microstructural characteristics of concrete materials to identify potential defects, degradation, and deterioration mechanisms of the concrete related construction materials. + Provide detailed reports and recommendations based on petrographic findings to inform clients on material performance and durability. + Collaborate with KTA’s laboratory team to assess material-related issues in both new construction and rehabilitation projects. + Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, materials science, and best practices in petrography. + Assist with forensic investigations of material failures or deterioration, providing expert testimony or analysis, as needed. Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Material Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field. + 2+ years of experience in petrographic analysis, materials science, or a related field. + Strong knowledge of concrete materials, their properties, and their behavior under various conditions. + Experience with laboratory testing and petrographic techniques, including microscopy and analysis of thin sections. + Proficiency in data analysis and report writing, with the ability to communicate complex findings in a clear and concise manner.
