Personalisation Lead
Our Digital Experience team are recruiting for a Personalisation Lead to join them on a permanent basis. Reporting to our Head of Digital Experience you’ll be part of an entrepreneurial team, tasked with leading our personalisation strategy across our owned media platforms. You will be the subject matter expert in appropriate personalisation tools to execute and scale cross-channel personalisation campaigns across our Penguin digital estate, including Penguin.co.uk, Dead Good Books and The Happy Foodie.

We’re looking for someone who is curious about developing a personalisation framework at Penguin Random House and can create a compelling story around the impact of personalisation. This is a unique opportunity to own the personalisation strategy for a truly iconic brand and drive this forward in line with our ambitious plans over the next 12 months and beyond. We are looking for somebody with an appetite to innovate in this space.
The role
You will be responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive personalisation framework that aligns with Penguin’s commercial objectives. This involves developing data-driven strategies to drive engagement and revenue growth across Penguin’s owned channels.
This role is a subject matter expert in marketing automation tools, A/B testing and/or personalisation, possessing excellent analytical skills and will be responsible for the overall orchestration of multi-channel personalisation.
This newly created role will suit someone who is curious, analytical and determined to be a key part of our specialist Digital Experience team, that forms part of our wider Brand division.
About the department
The Digital Experience team sits within the Brand division which houses a number of central areas of specialist expertise who support and work closely with our publishing houses to connect our books and authors with readers. The department includes experts from digital marketing, brand, communications, design, consumer insights, and more.
The iconic Penguin brand – the only consumer-facing brand in publishing – sits at the heart of what we do. We have an exciting opportunity to leverage the power of our brand to help new and different readers discover our books and to champion the causes we care about.
Key responsibilities:
Define and execute strategies to identify and target high-value audience segments based on user preferences and behaviour, to deliver personalised experiences. Collaborate with channel owners to convert business objectives into personalisation use cases. Collaborate with our UX stakeholders to test and improve onsite journeys. Understand and prioritise business workload, challenges, and opportunities to define a personalisation approach that scales. Build reusable frameworks across multiple websites that bring efficiency to different stages of a personalisation lifecycle. Communicate the results and learnings to create a compelling story around the impact of personalisation to key business stakeholders within the Brand division and the wider business. Embed a robust experimentation culture across the Digital Marketing team. Use analytics to identify data driven hypotheses to apply a control/challenger measurement framework to optimisation.
What you’ll bring
Essential criteria:
Significant experience creating multi-channel personalisation strategies, frameworks and use cases. Strong understanding of marketing technology infrastructure and customer data structures. A strong understanding of digital marketing eco-systems. Strong analytical skills which you’ll apply to develop our personalisation strategy. Experience using personalisation tools such as Adobe Target, or equivalent personalisation platforms. Comfortable prioritising competing tasks and appropriately managing multiple stakeholders across our Brand division and wider publishing community. Relevant experience in project management with the ability to coordinate and manage cross-channel campaigns. An understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript would be advantageous. Highly collaborative with extensive interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally. Works effectively and inclusively with a range of people, both within and outside of the organisation. Demonstrates determination, resourcefulness and purpose to deliver. A growth mindset.

Salary
Circa £46,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
Hybrid working
While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that you will come to the office at Embassy Gardens on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
