Perishable Inspector - Produce

As a Perishables Inspector, you will be responsible for the daily inspection of both inbound and outbound products. This includes, but is not limited to: monitoring expiration or best-by dates, ensuring proper product slotting, and addressing product-related issues with the supervisor or manager. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure all perishable quality and food safety specifications are consistently met. This includes compliance with company procurement standards, customer-specific quality requirements (if applicable), and regulatory guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA).

**You will contribute by:**
+ Inspecting and processing inbound deliveries into company facilities to ensure they meet quality, weight, size, color, date code, and labeling requirements.
+ Inspecting outbound produce in the slots to ensure it meets customer specifications. Reporting any overages or shortages to procurement as needed.Collaborating with quality control inspectors, receiving clerks, and warehouse operations supervisors on inbound truckload deliveries into the C&S perishables facility to ensure timely receipt and high-quality produce.
+ Communicating inbound receiving issues to procurement and warehouse management to help manage dock flow and operations effectively.
+ Reporting vendor-specific concerns to buyers, category management, and the quality control manager to ensure compliance with quality standards and food safety regulations.
+ Supervising USDA federal inspections conducted at the facility.
+ Notifying appropriate stakeholders of issues identified during the initial inbound inspection process.
+ Filing inbound inspection reports and completing write-ups in a timely and accurate manner.
+ Monitoring warehouse activities that may impact product quality and safety, including verifying that pallet receipt date tags are checked routinely and ensuring proper documentation flow, such as resolving discrepancies in product counts and checking truck manifests for accuracy.
+ Auditing inventory levels and rotation to ensure products meet freshness and quality standards; escalating concerns as necessary.
+ Supporting consistent quality across the supply chain.
+ Performing other duties as assigned, including maintaining relationships with internal teams (procurement and warehouse operations), supporting efficient dock operations to preserve product freshness, and cross-training with other facilities to provide coverage as needed.
**We’re searching for candidates with:**
+ Strong knowledge of USDA standards for meat and produce, PACA regulations, State DEC guidelines, HACCP standards for seafood, and customer-specific requirements.
+ USDA Produce Certification.
+ HACCP Certification.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
+ Ability to operate equipment as required.
+ Ability to stand for extended periods.
+ 2-5 years of experience in a wholesale or warehouse environment.

+ Warehouse : Perishable Warehouse (28F to 60F)
+ Warehouse : Grocery Warehouse (50F to 90F)
+ Warehouse : Freezer (-20F to 0F)
