Summary

The Perioperative Educator represents and supports the mission, philosophy and goals of Moffitt Cancer Center and seeks innovative ways to achieve education program goals. This position seeks and integrates current knowledge of oncology nursing and principles of adult learning into education.

 

The Perioperative Educator utilizes systematic educational planning principles, solid instructional design methods, knowledge of Moffitt's Policies and Procedures and emerging technologies for the creation of relevant programs, materials, methods, and media to communicate information and implements monitoring and assessment measures to determine effectiveness. This individual designs high quality education programs and materials for diverse audiences across Perioperative practices with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.

 

Under the direction of the Director of Perioperative Services, this role will provide orientation and education for all levels of nursing and non-nursing staff members within Perioperative Services, including, but not limited to: Operating Room, PACU, Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology, PAT, Preop Holding, Procedure Suites, and Bronchoscopy. Collaborates with leadership and management team to assess learning needs.

 

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education, Public Health or related field: preferred Three (3) years of relevant Perioperative nursing experience: Two (2) year of experience scrubbing and/or circulating as an Operating Room RN. Knowledge in educational needs assessment Knowledge of education planning processes, various communication methods/new media, program development and evaluation Previous teaching and/or leadership experience preferred Holds one (1) of the following specialty certifications within 18 months from date of hire/transfer: CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) or NPD-BC (Nursing Professional Development Board Certification). CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Action), or CPAN (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse)

 

 

Responsibilities: Knowledge of education planning processes, various communication methods/new media, program development and evaluation. Demonstrated ability to use effective communication and work collaboratively with physicians, staff members, patients and families. Excellent verbal, written and listening skills. Demonstrated organizational and problem solving capability. Commitment to quality customer service.

 

 

Credentials and Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution Registered Nurse (RN) RN-Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of FL, or a valid Multi-State privilege to practice in FL (must declare FL as primary State of residence within 30 days from date of hire if licensed in another eNLC compact state with multi-state privileges)An applicant for this position, who will be or is seeking Florida licensure by endorsement, must not have any National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) reports, unless the applicant has successfully appealed to have their name removed from the NPDB. An applicant is encouraged to conduct a NPDB Self-Query before proceeding with an employment application: https://www.npdb.hrsa.gov/pract/howToGetStarted.jsp Basic Life Support (BLS) Three (3) years of relevant Perioperative nursing experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience scrubbing and/or circulating as an Operating Room RN.
