**Job Overview**
**Are you interested in becoming an Operating Room Nurse?**
Fairview West Bank offers care to people living and working in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. The Perioperative 101 program is learner centered and structured. It is crafted to provide niche skills and knowledge in Perioperative nursing. Learning modules are presented through lectures, demonstrations and videos. Learning is reinforced in the lab and clinical setting. The classroom didactic, hands-on lab experiences and clinical practicum take place Monday through Friday on the day shift, however hours can vary. The method of evaluation will include chapter post-tests, final examination, skill demonstrations and preceptor observation in the clinical setting. Provides continuing education contact hours after successful completion.
**Location:** UMMC West Bank
**Date:** Program begins on October 20, 2025 and will continue for approximately four to six (4-6) months.
**Days/Hours:** Training will take place Monday through Friday, hours will vary. This training program is full-time (80 hours per two-week pay period) for the duration of the program. Once you are placed as a Curriculating RN, you will be working day/evenings and possible nights with rotating weekends.
**Commitment:** One year committment after completion of orientation.
**Cost:** We use AORN curriculum, M Health Fairview pays the cost of the class.
**About the OR at UMMC West Bank**
+ UMMC West Bank is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota and in turn has students, residents, fellows placed in this OR daily.
+ The West Bank has 15 operating rooms, 1 EP Lab, 1 Cath Lab serving an average of 36 cases per day.
+ We provide innovative surgical suites for adult and pediatric patients and are currently renovating additional OR's to complement the existing 4 larger OR's.
+ Surgeries in this unit are team based among these specialties: Ortho/Spine/Oral (mainly adults), Peds CV-Hearts/Cardio Thoracic, Peds Neuro/Generals/Urology/Bariatrics, Peds Transplant, Adult Urology, GYN, ENT/Eye/Plastics, Peds Dental and Da Vinci Robotics.

As an Operating Room RN, you will be responsible for:
+ Implements protective measures prior to procedure, including measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to thermal, mechanical, electrical and chemical sources.
+ Confirms identity before the operative or invasive procedure and verifies operative procedure, surgical site and laterality.
+ Applies safety devices, performs required counts, manages specimen handling and disposition.
+ Applies principles of aseptic technique while establishing and maintaining sterile fields.
+ Performs skin preparations, monitors for wound contamination, and classifies the surgical wound.
+ Ensures perioperative environmental sanitation.
+ Supports patients’ rights and ethics by delivering consistent, proficient, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support of the patient’s value system.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of the health system environment and administrative issues that impact job performance, patient safety, and ethical considerations.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ A current Minnesota RN license by start date.
+ Current BLS certification with American Heart Association or American Red Cross as a Health Care Provider required at the time of application.
+ Must have a strong desire/career goal to work as a RN in the Operating Room environment.
+ Current Fairview employees must have been in their current position for a minimum for 12 months and performance in previous/current Fairview jobs will be considered.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ BSN, BAN, Master’s degree in nursing or higher
+ Previous experience in acute care nursing RN, surgical tech/technologist or as a anesthesia aide.
+ Completion of a perioperative nursing course at a community or technical college.
+ One year of nursing experience
