Job Summary 

Responsible for providing lactation management services to expectant and new parents. These functions are performed in accordance with the
hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.  IBCLC is responsible for the lactation program, prenatal classes, quality review & management, and serves as a program coordinator for our neonatal and maternal designation.  Responsible for the Texas 10 Step program including education, policy, and submission of application every two years. 

Essential Functions

Demonstrates ability to organize, manage, and develop the lactation program in collaboration with the Perinatal Team.  Maintain current evidence-based breastfeeding education for annual staff education to facilitate up to date patient education. Plans, organizes, and delivers lactation management services to all breastfeeding patients, both inpatient and outpatient. Participates in the quality assurance assessment and data collection to monitor the effectiveness of the lactation program and makes improvements based off of the assessment.  Participates in the Perinatal QAPI, Perinatal Work Group, and Perinatal Collaborative with LSP.   Establishes effective working relationships with other departments Follows the chain of command and directs problems to the appropriate personnel Provides accurate and timely information using discretion and protecting the patient’s right to privacy/confidentiality per hospital policy Maintains current licensure, any specialty certification, CPR, ACLS,NRP, annual education & competency.   Responds immediately and appropriately in all emergency situations

Qualifications

Current CLC and/or IBCLC Certification At least one (2) year of staff experience in a Perinatal setting as a CLC and/or IBCLC Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing with license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred Specialty certification recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the National Certification Corporation (NCC) in the applicable area of practice preferred
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of the nursing process and clinical nursing practices. Ability to perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively. Proficient in administering medications and monitoring for side effects. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documenting patient care. Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.

Licenses and Certifications

RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required Current CLC and/or IBCLC Certification BCLS - Basic Life Support required ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation preferred Refer to facility or unit-specific guidelines for additional requirements.
