The purpose of the Performance Engineer role is to ensure opportunities from area losses are evaluated and properly categorized; potential improvements identified; and solutions implemented through the appropriate function or group. The Performance Engineer also provides a technical resource to coach and assist the operations team optimize and improve EH&S, throughput, product quality, reliability, and cost performance. The Performance Engineer enables the asset to meet EHS&S, productivity, and quality goals as the expert on the daily operations of the production facility.
What You'll Do:
Actively support and participate in environmental, health and safety initiatives to drive EH&S excellence. Participates in and/or leads Management of Change Activity.
Understand all applicable process technology, equipment and control technology.
Analyze plant performance KPI’s as part of Asset Operations work process and AOPS methodology.
Ensure daily and weekly KPI’s are being entered using red/green visual indicators and any red/off target metric has a discussion on plan to close the gap.
Own production losses (utilization, yield, equipment) and constantly assess performance. Categorize and evaluate production deviation data.
Determine and prioritize corrective actions to close Operational Performance gaps.
Participate in advanced troubleshooting and coach others to learn these skills. Utilize Root Cause Analysis techniques to identify and drive improvements to prevent recurrent issues.
As required, communicate technical information and issues to plant personnel, Technology or Expertise centers.
Demonstrate strong engineering and continuous improvement skills to troubleshoot process bottlenecks, evaluate new opportunities, and prioritize complex issues.
Work with plant personnel to optimize operations and meet business goals (production, cost, quality).
Apply understanding of Quality and Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures to operating and improving the plant.
Facilitate all aspects of improvement ideas / tracking, including EH&S, capital, aggregate, productivity, and technical-based improvements.
Facilitate evaluation, prioritization and execution of improvements.
Own standardized improvement tool / list.
Participate in and leads plant teams.
Scope and implement small projects.
Act as a manufacturing representative, as needed, for projects in their area of responsibility.
Participate in the plant on-call rotation.
This is an entry-level engineering role ideal for candidates with up to 2–3 years of experience in chemical production
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process, or Industrial Engineering
1–3 years of hands-on experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or related production environment
Interest in continuous improvement and plant optimization
Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn advanced tools (Root Cause Analysis, Six Sigma, etc.)
Basic understanding of EH&S principles
Fluent in Italian; working knowledge of English
Preferred:
Exposure to chemical manufacturing processes (internship or full-time)
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or FMEA (even at basic level)
Familiarity with production KPIs or data entry systems
