People Operations Team Lead, Hong Kong and Macau
What the day will look like
Leadership & Team Management
+ Lead and mentor the local People Operations team to deliver high-quality services.
+ Provide guidance, coaching, and support to ensure continuous growth and strong performance.
+ Oversee workload distribution, team targets, and ensure adherence to service delivery standards.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
+ Manage and oversee end-to-end payroll processing for Hong Kong and Macau employees.
+ Maintain compliance with statutory requirements and company policies.
+ Administer employee benefits programs, including medical insurance, retirement schemes (MPF/ORSO), allowances, and other entitlements.
+ Administer and process rental reimbursement schemes in compliance with tax regulations.
+ Oversee the processing of Employee Share Option Plans (ESOPs) and benefits-in-kind.
+ Liaise with and manage external payroll vendors and insurance providers, ensuring accuracy and service quality.
Taxation & Statutory Compliance
+ Manage annual and monthly income tax filing for Hong Kong and Macau employees.
+ Prepare and submit required returns (e.g., IR56 forms in Hong Kong) and maintain compliance with Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and Macau Finance Bureau requirements.
+ Support employees with tax clearance, expatriate tax matters, and partner with external tax advisors as required.
+ Keep abreast of legislative changes in Hong Kong and Macau employment and tax laws.
Workforce Administration & Immigration
+ Be responsible for employee lifecycle administration, including onboarding, offboarding, contract management, and employee data maintenance.
+ Ensure HRIS and personnel records are accurate and up to date.
+ Handle immigration processes, including work visa and employment permit applications, renewals, and compliance for foreign employees.
+ Act as the key liaison with immigration authorities, external vendors, and legal advisors.
Projects & Process Improvement
+ Drive continuous process improvement and standardization across HK People operations.
+ Support and lead regional payroll or People Operations projects as needed.
+ Ensure SOP documentation and policies are updated and aligned with internal standards.
Stakeholder Collaboration
+ Act as the primary local e
+ point and contact for employees and managers in Hong Kong and Macau for payroll, benefits, rental reimbursement, immigration, and HR operational queries within scope.
+ Partner closely with Finance, Compliance, Legal, Global Mobility and other HR teams to ensure seamless HR service delivery.
+ Collaborate with regional and global People Operations teams to share protocols and implement global initiatives locally.
How this opportunity is different
The People Operations Team Lead will manage day-to-day People operations, ensuring smooth delivery of payroll, benefits administration (including rental reimbursement), employee income tax reporting, workforce administration, and immigration matters. This role will lead a small team, drive process improvements, and maintain compliance with all relevant labor laws and statutory requirements in Hong Kong and Macau.
The ideal candidate will bring proven team leadership experience, strong technical expertise in payroll and HR operations, and the ability to partner effectively with regional and global stakeholders.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
+ Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
+ Minimum 7–10 years of HR operations experience, with at least 3 years in a people leadership role managing payroll and people operations in Hong Kong.
+ Robust and up to date technical knowledge of Hong Kong and Macau employment laws, payroll, MPF/ORSO schemes, rental reimbursement, and income tax requirements.
+ Proven experience managing immigration matters (work visas, employment permits, renewals).
+ Hands-on experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms (Workday, Prosoft Unit4).
+ Vendor management experience with payroll and benefits providers.
