Peer Support Specialist Job Details Job Location Newport - 219 East Broadway - Newport, TN Position Type Full Time Education Level 2 Year Degree Salary Range $23.00 - $23.00 Hourly Description Position Summary: Peer Support Specialist is part of the Treatment team at WestCare TN to provide continuous support and encouragement to individuals enrolled in the Tennessee Health Resiliency Grant program. This role involves leading Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) sessions, attending monthly integrated treatment meetings, and advocating for participants’ needs to promote their health and well-being.This position serves Cocke County only. Essential Job Functions: + Provide ongoing peer support to individuals throughout their enrollment in the program. + Lead Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) sessions, guiding participants in developing personalized wellness strategies. + Attend monthly integrated treatment meetings to collaborate with healthcare providers, community partners, and program staff. + Advocate for the needs and preferences of individuals served, ensuring their voices are heard and respected. + Build trusting, empathetic relationships to empower participants on their recovery journeys. + Maintain confidential and accurate records of peer support activities and participant progress. + Collaborate with the care team to ensure coordinated and holistic support for participants. + Participate in training and professional development to enhance peer support skills. + Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation. + Collaborate with other WestCare Tennessee team members to promote and meet requirements. + Participate in + Will engage and complete the required WestCare Tennessee eLearning, and any other program related trainings. + Perform other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator/ Director Qualifications Essential Qualifications: + Associate’s degree in Health, Social Work, or related field is required. + Lived experience with behavioral health recovery or similar lived experience relevant to the program population. + Certification as a Peer Support Specialist is preferred (or willingness to obtain). + Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills. + Ability to facilitate WRAP groups or willingness to be trained. + Commitment to confidentiality, respect, and cultural sensitivity. + Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. + Basic computer skills for documentation and communication. Preferred: + Experience working with individuals facing mental health, substance use, or trauma-related challenges. + Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented practices. Working Conditions: + Work is primarily performed in an office or indoor setting. + Some outdoor activities and travel willbe required. + Some travel will be required for training and conferences. + Regular and prompt attendance is required throughout employment. Essential Physical and Mental Demands of the Job The employee must be able to perform the following essential duties and activities with or without accommodation: Physical Demands: + Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and proper utilization by hand (typing, writing, and working with files). + Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or promptly. + Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication. + Requires seeing: Clarity of vision including proper eyewear at 20 inches or less and at distance. + The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. However, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee. Mental Demands : + Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions. + Requires the ability to work and cooperate with co-workers, managers and the public at all levels in order to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions.
