Peer Specialist- Certified (PT- 0.5 FTE, Day Shift)

Position Summary: 

The Peer Specialist is an active member of the Emergency Department Crisis Team and provides peer support services to patients in a behavioral health crisis. Under supervision, provides consumer information and peer support for clients in outpatient and inpatient settings. Is or has been a recipient of behavioral health services mental illness and/or substance abuse treatment. Acts as a positive role model through good work ethic, fairness, flexibility and commitment to appropriate and direct communication, demonstrates energy and enthusiasm for Bozeman Health’s mission and vision, and embraces, develops, and implements recovery-based principles with consumers, peers, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED or equivalentCertified Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist (CBHPSS)American Heart Association BLS1 year of experience working with persons with the population supportedCertified as a Peer Support Specialist or 1 continuous year as a current or former recipient of treatment (including mental health/substance abuse treatment or diagnosis) and eligibility for certification as Peer Support Specialist by the governing agencyMust complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of training specific to the required components of the specific service definition including crisis response within the first 90 days of employmentValid drivers’ license and automotive insuranceAbility to pass background check and drug screen

Essential Job Functions:

Serves as a mentor to consumers to promote hope and empowerment for self-determination.Suggests appropriate changes in treatment plans to ensure immediate and appropriate interventions are provided in response to changes in consumers’ mental status or behaviors.Utilizes electronic medical record documentation software and communicate through use of Word documents, outlook, and the internet.Assists and supports clients to obtain and utilize a personal primary care physician, dentist, or other medical specialists as needed.Provides patient care and 1:1 support through developed therapeutic relationships.Records and maintains patient information such as vital signs, eating habits, behavior, and progress notes.Assists in deescalating emergency situations involving patients and/or staff.Provides and maintains a safe environment for all patients at all times.Utilizes and teaches problem solving techniques with individuals in crisis instilling a sense of hope.Other duties as assigned.
