As a Peer Specialist, you’ll empower others by sharing recovery tools, encouraging healthy choices, and helping individuals access community supports. You’ll serve as a role model and advocate, supporting clients through one-on-one engagement, education, and mentorship. Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with individuals to develop and implement personalized treatment and recovery plans
Utilize peer support to foster recovery and resilience in those with mental health and/or substance use disorders
Facilitate access to community-based services, including transportation and appointment accompaniment
Provide crisis support and facilitate group education sessions
Document services in accordance with state and CARF standards
Assist individuals in accessing recovery tools and building community support systems
Encourage individuals to pursue independent living, healthy decision-making, and long-term recovery
Advocate for and mentor individuals as they pursue recovery goals
Maintain communication with referral sources, treatment teams, and guardians as appropriate
Adhere to professional boundaries, ethical standards, and confidentiality regulations
Participate in required training to meet state certification and continuing education standards
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must have a minimum of one (1) year of direct, personal experience with the mental health system as a primary consumer of services
Must be willing to self-identify as a current or former recipient of mental health and/or substance use services
Must be able to complete a state-approved Certified Peer Specialist training and pass certification within six months of employment
Two (2) years of responsible employment history preferred
Participation in a 12-step program and ability to provide evidence of a sponsor (if applicable)
General knowledge of computer use
Required License/Certification:
Must complete a Missouri state-approved Certified Peer Specialist training program
Certification must be achieved within six (6) months of employment

Additional Qualifications:
Ability to share personal recovery experiences in a way that supports and motivates others
Strong understanding of mental health and substance use challenges and available resources
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of case management and community rehabilitation principles
Familiarity with recovery communities and mutual aid groups
