Position: PCB Layout Engineer – Server Platforms

We are seeking an experienced PCB Layout Engineer – Server Platforms to join our platform team, contributing directly to the design and production of industry-leading server products. In this individual contributor role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including packaging, signal integrity/power integrity (SIPI), product design, manufacturing, and component suppliers. You will be responsible for producing high-quality PCB designs, from placement and routing to production release, while meeting demanding electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out PCB design feasibility studies to assess layout goals related to packaging, cost, manufacturing, and system performance.Identify and propose design trade-offs to engineering teams to help resolve layout, electrical, and manufacturing constraints.Collaborate with engineering, product design, test, EMC, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless PCB integration and manufacturability.Partner with PCB fabrication vendors to incorporate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.Proficiency with Valor DFM to optimize for fabrication and assembly yield.Contribute to the definition and refinement of PCB design standards and specifications, accounting for electrical performance, product design, and regulatory requirements.Set up and run Design Rule Checks (DRCs) to validate all aspects of PCB layout and compliance with specifications.Generate detailed fabrication and assembly packages, including Gerber files, drill drawings, and documentation.Deliver optimized PCB designs that meet performance, cost, and schedule targets.Ensure successful transition of designs from prototype to volume production.

Qualifications

5+ years of PCB layout experience, with emphasis on complex, high-speed, high-density designs.Expertise in designing dense multi-layer (22+ layer) PCBs, with experience routing high-speed signals (e.g., 56G/112G SerDes).Deep understanding of advanced layout technologies and features, including: Back-drilling, micro/buried vias, VIPPO PCB stack-up and laminate material selection Power and signal integrity implications of routingStrong knowledge of DFM/DFT best practices.Proficiency with Cadence Allegro PCB Designer and related CAD/CAE tools.Experience with: Schematic capture and component footprint creation Layout of high-speed digital and power delivery networks Routing high-density BGA and LGA packages Impedance control Component placement optimizationFamiliarity with thermal considerations as they relate to PCB layout.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams.Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and team alignment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.10+ years of experience in server hardware or high-performance system design.Demonstrated ownership of quality-focused designs ready for release to manufacturing.In-depth knowledge of PCB fabrication technologies and emerging process trends.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse team of engineers and partners.Experience with optimizing PCB panel utilization.

Minimum Qualifications:

•    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:

$151,800.00 - $227,800.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.  We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).  In addition, our highly competitive benefits package is designed to support your success at work, at home, and at play.
