Payroll Tax Specialist SR

Major Responsibilities:

Track all “new state” requests to ensure they are assessed, approved/denied, and set-up in the appropriate company and payroll system. Analyze changes in employee home and worked-in state as well as withholding elections to ensure compliance with applicable laws.Complete the ADP quarterly reporting reconciliation by tax entity including review of ADP-prepared tax filings to verify they are compliant with agreement. Lead quarterly review of ADP Tax Services and other third parties with payroll management.Provide project management for the annual tax reporting process.Research and respond to correspondence from tax authorities.Advise payroll management regarding changes in tax laws and regulations. Provide updates to the payroll team and Human Resource and Finance, as required.Review the payroll tax-related work of other payroll team members. Lead the annual W-2 project.All other duties assigned by the Payroll Director.Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to AAH’s business.


Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, orBachelor's Degree in Business or related field.


Experience Required:

Typically requires 7 years of experience in payroll processing with 5 years of direct payroll tax processing/oversight (tax assessment, tax reporting and project management).


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Deep knowledge of US federal, state and local payroll taxes including how to calculate them, where to research the applicable regulations and how they interrelate.Knowledge of unemployment tax reporting for “Not-for-profits”.Experience with amendment process for withholding and unemployment returns.Medium proficiency with Microsoft Excel including vlook-up, pivot tables, etc. Experience with project planning software.Experience with payroll tax reporting in Workday, ADP, Lawson or Peoplesoft for ten or more unique companies.Multiple experiences with system implementation including writing test cases, reviewing test case results, and assisting with parallel testing.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Exposed to normal office environment.Job may require travel; therefore, may be exposed to road and weather hazards.Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally.Sits the majority of the workday, but also may lift, reach and bend throughout the day.Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
