Job Summary:Responsible for maintaining payroll tax compliance and accurate reporting of payroll taxes to meet the company’s regulatory and internal requirements. May provide services in payroll tax research, audit responses, reconciliations, and other payroll tax-related areas. Ensures company compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, including wage withholding, unemployment insurance, and other employment-related taxes. *This is a Hybrid role where 3 days are required in office.
Principal Responsibilities:Provide support to internal departments and employees on payroll tax-related inquiries.Audit vendor tax filings and prepare tax amendments as needed (e.g., federal/state/local tax filings, unemployment taxes, etc.).Review and audit payroll tax filings and reports prepared by payroll vendors for accuracy and compliance.Reconcile payroll tax accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.Monitor changes in payroll tax laws and regulations and ensure accurate application to payroll processes.Respond to payroll tax authority notices and audit requests; prepare supporting documentation and respond to inquiries.Maintain accurate records of tax payments, filings, and adjustments.Collaborate with payroll providers, auditors, tax agencies, and internal stakeholders to resolve tax issues.Assist in the maintenance of payroll tax setup in payroll systems.Participate in projects involving payroll system updates, tax compliance initiatives, and process improvements.Perform periodic internal audits to ensure payroll tax data integrity. Document tax procedures and assist in the education of tax requirements to the broader Payroll team.Other duties as assigned.
Job Level Specifications:Thorough knowledge of principles, theories and concepts in area of discipline. Competent in all job functions and has general understanding of the industry practices, techniques and standards.Develops solutions for a variety of situations and works on projects requiring evaluation and analysis. May refer to policies, practices and precedents for guidance; determines best course of action to achieve results.Work is performed independently and requires the exercise of judgment and discretion. May receive some limited guidance for new assignments.Work may be reviewed for accuracy and adherence to regulatory and company standards.Collaborates with management and team members within the department/function and other areas of the organization. May represent department internally or externally.Errors or delays in payroll tax processing may require additional effort or rework to resolve and could affect employee satisfaction or compliance.
Work Experience:Typically 3+ years with bachelor's or equivalent.
Education and Certification(s):Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience. CPP or FPC certification is a plus.
Distinguishing Characteristics:Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations. Familiarity and proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, SAP) and Excel. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a deadline-driven environment.
