Description We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Iron Mountain, MI. This is a long-term contract position, offering a hybrid work schedule with both in-office and remote opportunities. The ideal candidate will excel in managing payroll processes, ensuring compliance with legal and tax requirements, and addressing employee inquiries with professionalism and accuracy. Responsibilities: • Process weekly payroll for a workforce of 600+ union employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. • Prepare and upload retirement plan and contribution files according to established schedules. • Accurately input and update job, salary, and personal data within the payroll system. • Maintain and manage Excel workbooks used for payroll processing, ensuring data consistency. • Handle garnishment entries and payments, adhering to all legal requirements. • Investigate and resolve data discrepancies between payroll records and employee inquiries. • Ensure compliance with audit standards and internal control requirements by maintaining accurate and complete documentation. • Provide support to employees regarding personnel records, time entry, and details related to earnings, deductions, and taxes. • Uphold confidentiality and data security standards in all payroll-related activities. Requirements • Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. • 3-5 years of payroll processing experience, preferably including end-to-end processes. • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall Microsoft Office skills. • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping. • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively address employee and stakeholder inquiries. • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with strict deadlines. • Experience with union payroll processing is preferred. • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle competing priorities.
