Payroll Specialist
Description We are looking for a skilled Payroll Specialist to join our team on a contract basis in Detroit, Michigan. This role is ideal for a candidate with extensive experience in payroll operations, particularly in unionized environments, and a strong understanding of compliance and tax regulations. As part of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring seamless payroll processing and supporting employees across various locations. Responsibilities: • Process full-cycle payroll for union and non-union employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with wage laws and union agreements. • Utilize Paycor software to manage payroll operations, including data entry, reporting, and audits. • Conduct detailed payroll audits to identify discrepancies and resolve errors promptly. • Collaborate with managers, employees, and union representatives to address payroll-related inquiries and concerns. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, as well as union-specific labor agreements. • Prepare customized reports and analyze payroll data using advanced Microsoft Excel functions. • Assist in managing multi-state payroll operations, adhering to varying state-specific regulations. • Implement and maintain accurate records for payroll deductions, including union dues and benefits. • Support occasional in-office tasks and meetings to coordinate with other departments or union representatives. Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll processing, with a focus on union employee payroll. • Proficiency in Paycor software is mandatory. • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, tax laws, and wage regulations. • Advanced skills in payroll auditing, data analysis, and error resolution. • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field preferred. • Effective verbal and written communication skills for liaising with employees, managers, and union representatives. • Familiarity with union contract payroll complexities, such as dues, overtime rules, and shift differentials. • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
