Description We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Nottingham, Maryland. In this Contract-to-Permanent position, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with expertise in handling complex payroll systems and multi-state operations.
Responsibilities:
• Process bi-weekly payroll for both salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accuracy in wage calculations, deductions, benefits, and reimbursements.
• Verify and review timesheets, attendance records, and leave balances to ensure payroll data integrity.
• Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate final reports for accuracy.
• Handle retirement plan contributions, garnishments, payroll invoices, and bank transmissions.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including wage and hour regulations.
• Assist with year-end processes such as W-2 preparation, retirement plan census, and payroll reconciliations.
• Support internal and external audits related to payroll, ensuring data accuracy and proper documentation.
• Prepare and distribute payroll reports, including summaries, labor distribution, and general ledger journal entries.
• Maintain and troubleshoot payroll systems, collaborating with IT or external vendors for upgrades and maintenance.
• Address employee inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies, policies, and procedures in a timely manner. Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of experience in full-cycle payroll processing.
• Proficiency in managing multi-state payroll operations for over 500 employees.
• Expertise in payroll systems such as Paylocity and ADP Workforce Now.
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes and bi-weekly payroll procedures.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis.
• Familiarity with compliance requirements for federal/state grants and reporting.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive employee data responsibly.
• Strong communication skills to effectively address payroll-related questions and troubleshoot issues.
