Payroll Specialist
Description We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team on a contract basis for 8–12 weeks in Franklin, Wisconsin. This role is critical to ensuring accurate payroll processing and compliance with regulations while supporting the organization's financial operations. The position is on-site and offers a business-casual work environment. Responsibilities: • Process bi-weekly payroll while ensuring accuracy in employee deductions, timekeeping, and compliance with payroll regulations. • Reconcile payroll ledgers and withholding accounts to maintain financial accuracy. • Prepare and file payroll tax reports, including W-2s and retirement contributions. • Address employee inquiries regarding payroll matters and resolve discrepancies promptly. • Monitor payroll schedules and adjust for holidays or other scheduling changes. • Support accounts payable tasks as needed to assist with broader financial operations. • Administer benefit programs such as flexible spending accounts, disability, and worker's compensation. • Collaborate with the finance or HR team to ensure smooth payroll operations during the contract period. Requirements • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred. • Minimum of 2 years of payroll experience, ideally within nonprofit, education, or small business environments. • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with payroll or accounting systems. • Solid understanding of payroll laws and regulations. • Experience in Microsage or district payroll systems is a plus. • Knowledge of Wisconsin-specific payroll and tax requirements is highly desirable.
