Payroll Specialist

Our client is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations and provide exceptional service to employees. This is an onsite opportunity within a supportive, inclusive, and community-focused organization. This role is expected to be a long-term contract opportunity. Position Summary: The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll by organizing, verifying, and auditing employee data related to compensation, benefits, and tax withholdings. This role involves managing biweekly payroll cycles, handling payroll inquiries, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations, and supporting year-end payroll activities. Key Responsibilities: + Process and review biweekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines. + Maintain and verify payroll, benefit, and tax-related documentation. + Resolve discrepancies, correct errors, and process manual checks when necessary. + Apply special deductions such as garnishments, child support, and tax levies. + Track leave of absences and process related payments. + Provide responsive customer service to employees regarding payroll issues via phone and email. + Generate payroll reports and electronic files from payroll systems. + Respond to internal and external documentation and reporting requests. + Assist with year-end processes including tax filings and W-2 distribution. + Deposit employee-related checks, such as 401(k) loan payments. Requirements Qualifications: + Minimum 2 years of payroll processing experience required. + Prior experience in payroll or accounting in a financial services environment is preferred. + Strong understanding of payroll best practices, deductions, and regulatory compliance. + Experience with payroll software (UltiPro and Cognos preferred). + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). •Key Competencies: + Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. + Strong written and verbal communication abilities. + Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. + Customer service orientation with a professional and positive demeanor. + Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
