Summary Statement
The City of Boise is hiring a Payroll and Timekeeping Clerk in a full-time, fully benefited limited duration role. This position is hybrid eligible and a great fit for someone with experience in payroll, auditing timekeeping records, and working with systems such as UKG who wants to grow their skills and advance their career.
You’ll play an important role in supporting the City’s bi-weekly payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. This role provides hands-on experience in payroll processing, timekeeping system support, auditing, and employee assistance - making it an excellent opportunity for someone ready to expand their payroll career in a supportive team environment.

This limited duration position offers the chance to gain valuable payroll and timekeeping experience, grow your career, and make an impact supporting the employees of Boise.
Essential Functions
Responds to employee and departmental questions regarding timekeeping and payroll. Maintains shift schedules, leave accruals, and related data in the time and attendance system. Performs routine data entry in support of payroll and HRIS systems. Assists in preparing and processing payroll entries. Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
Verifies net pay and processes garnishments, including IRS and court orders. Provides direct payroll support to designated departments by coordinating, collecting, and reviewing bi-weekly payroll data.
Provides support across HRIS and payroll functions. Researches payroll records to respond to requests from employees and departments. Collaborates with the Payroll Supervisor to ensure compliance with tax regulations and PERSI requirements. Reviews and confirms benefit-related payroll data for new and existing employees.
Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in payroll processing, time and attendance systems, or payroll tax preparation and reporting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of:
+ Payroll procedures, rules, regulations, and policies
+ Federal and state tax requirements; general accounting principles and practices
+ Automated accounting and payroll systems
+ Federal and state wage and hour laws
+ Word processing and spreadsheet software programs
Ability to:
+ Organize and manage work to meet strict deadlines
+ Maintain accurate and detailed payroll records
+ Prepare payroll, tax, and benefit reports accurately
+ Enter data efficiently and accurately into payroll systems and spreadsheets
+ Use payroll and accounting software to complete assignments
+ Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees and the public
+ Communicate effectively in the English Language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
+ Understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations
+ Maintain prompt and regular attendance
+ Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Three years of experience administering payroll and working with timekeeping systems.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to pass:
City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
Credit History Check
Criminal Justice Information System background check (CJIS)
